Virtual Workshop:  April 17 July 11, 2024 at 6:30am PT / 9:30am ET / 15:30 CET.

In this upcoming workshop - held at the COVESA All Members Meeting in Gothenburg, Sweden - will focus on ADAS Collision Avoidance/Aftercare using the following agenda.

Working Session Title: Enabling accurate and prompt implementation of rescue services and start of emergency response

15:30-16:00: Welcome - Tim VanGoethem (Chief Product Office, Emergency Safety Solutions) & Larry Williams (Co-Founder LiDAR Saving Lives Public Safety Coalition)

 – Tim and Larry will provide the Connected Safety Birds of a Feather Working Group status and kick-off the Working Session

16:00-16:25:  Visual contextual information from Lidar, radar, and camera sensors – enabling a more intelligent emergency response Terranet AB, Magnus Anfersson, CEO

Today, in 70% of all emergency braking scenarios, vehicle crashes still occur despite having an existing ADAS system installed. Magnus will describe how Terranet’s emerging BlincVision product based on laser scanning, event cameras, and three-dimensional analysis will augment existing ADAS collision avoidance systems to achieve even lower latency. Magnus will describe Terranet’s vision of the world’s first end-to-end fully-integrated system for crash avoidance, detection, and instantaneous crash response - digitally processing and routing visual contextual information and intelligent crash data to first responders – transforming their ability to respond when crashes do happen.

16:25 - 17:00:  Collecting, sending, processing, & distributing intelligent crash data to help save lives - Roger C. Lanctot (Director Global Automotive Practice, TechInsights)

In the end, it all comes down to response times. In the event of a crash, vehicular emergency data should be collected, transmitted, and processed in a timely manner.  To do so, it should pass through as few hands as possible. Roger will describe the critical role of emerging IP-based instantaneous crash notification service providers transmitting critically important real-time crash data directly into 9-1-1 PSAP computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems augmenting legacy voice-centric 9-1-1 call taker solutions, thereby improving the accuracy and reliability of automotive OEM SOS emergency services, reducing response times, and expediting the arrival of first responders.

This session focused on the planned pivot from exploring stakeholder needs and value propositions to developing integrated safety system prototypes and reference implementations for improving post-crash care.  The following projects were approved for deeper definition:

  • Protecting the scene of a crash, and
  • 9-1-1 Dispatcher Visibility

As such, separate meetings will be scheduled to create the project proposals that will be presented to COVESA Leadership on July 29, 2024.  Once approved, separate meetings will be set up to drive the projects forward.  Please contact Tim VanGoethem <tvangoethem@ess-help.com> and Larry Williams <lwilliams@roadmedic.com> if you're interested in participating in one or both of these projects.

onnected Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Roundtable

In-Person and Virtual Workshop:  June 4, 2024 at 11:30am PT / 14:30 ET /  20:30 CET.

The Connected Vehicle Systems Alliance (COVESA) teamed up with Center for Automotive Research and LiDAR Saving Lives Public-Safety Coalition for a roundtable discussion on Next Generation PSAP during the Autotech Detroit conference held in Novi, MI.  This roundtable dove into the enabling digital processing and secure routing of crash data from vehicle sensors (lidar, radar, camera) triggered by airbag deployment to contact 9-1-1 PSAP Dispatch Centers in under five seconds.

Moderator/Host:

    • Ravi Puvvala, Center for Automotive Research
    • Tim VanGoethem, Connected Vehicle Systems Alliance (COVESA) and Chief Product Officer, Emergency Safety Solutions

Panelists:

    • Scott Craig, President, SBC Advisors
    • Jon Boeing, Founder, Connect.ai
    • Steve Coker, Senior Vice President, SiriusXM Connected Vehicle Services
    • Martin Lundh, Product Management & Strategy, WirelessCar
    • Dave Sehnert, ENP, Head of Public Safety Partnerships, RapidSOS
    • Brian Tegtmeyer, ENP, National 911 Program Coordinator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

A full recording of this 2-hour workshop can be accessed on the Center for Automotive Research website here.

– Instantaneous IP-based crash notification does not eliminate the need for Third-Party Service Provider (TPS) eCall support after a crash.  It does assign TPS eCall support to a secondary role in service of the needs of first responders. Guillaume will describe how TPS eCall providers can work in tandem with forward-thinking automakers and emerging IP-based instantaneous crash notification service providers to enable the swift and efficient delivery of intelligent crash data in a useable, readable format directly into next-generation 911/112/000 PSAP computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and first responder mobile devices on a global level.

17:25 - 17:30:  Closing, Tim VanGoethem (Chief Product Office, Emergency Safety Solutions

– Tim will recap the Working Session and provide details for May meeting.
