Expanding the GENIVI Compliance Program
</h2>
</a>
<p>
One of the benefits offered to GENIVI members is the ability to register their products as GENIVI Compliant™. Previously, the GENIVI Compliance Program benefited only those members who delivered a full IVI platform, leaving organizations that produced IVI software components and packages without a way to obtain a GENIVI stamp of approval. During this month's All Member Meeting, GENIVI announced an expansion of its compliance program by launching the Works with GENIVI program for individual software applications and components (think, navigation engine, for example).
</p>
<p>
This program allows member companies to obtain an approved mark indicating components are registered to Work with GENIVI. Many members that do not produce a complete platform can now gain recognition from GENIVI for their products with the Works with GENIVI program.
</p>
<p>
Additionally, the platform compliance program expanded with the release of the fifth generation of the GENIVI Compliance. This means that the registration cycle for the 5.0 release has started and submissions have already been received for review.
</p>
<p>
The GENIVI Compliance Program provides a set of specifications for GENIVI member companies to measure their platform products. Those that meet the specifications may be registered as GENIVI Compliant and listed on the GENIVI website. OEMs are now making GENIVI compliance a requirement in their requests for proposals (RFPs) for new In-Vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems, making compliance more important than ever. To respond to these RFPs, software suppliers and their sub-suppliers need to have demonstrated that they can produce products that meet the GENIVI compliance requirement. And now with the Works with GENIVI program, ISVs can also gain the attention of OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers by obtaining compliance at the component level.
</p>
<p>
The Yocto meta-ivi and Baserock "baselines" based on the 5.0 Compliance Specification were released and are ready for use by the public. A GENIVI baseline is an integrated, installable image of GENIVI components and their dependencies based on a time-based snapshot of a version of the GENIVI Compliance Specification, in this case 5.0. A GENIVI baseline contains about 150 components, each of which performs different functionality. For more information on the Baselines, please visit <a href='http://www.genivi.org/sites/default/files/genivi_baselines_0.pdf' target='_blank'>here</a>.
</p>
<p>
For more detailed information on these programs and the current list of GENIVI compliant products, visit <a href='http://genivi.org/genivi-compliance-program' target='_blank'>here</a>.

New Public GENIVI Licensing Policy
</h2>
</a>
<p>
The GENIVI Board of Directors recently approved the new version of the GENIVI Licensing Policy.
With GENIVI's strategy to move all coding work to publicly available open source projects, there have been several requests to publish GENIVI's licensing policy which governs the licenses GENIVI prefers in its projects. The License Review Team acted on these requests and took the chance to do a general rework of the policy. The document now focuses clearly on statements around which licenses are acceptable under which circumstances. Some license designations have been changed and made more consistent. Additionally the default headers for source code files have been adjusted to reflect GENIVI's open approach.
To obtain a copy of the policy, please visit
<a href='http://docs.projects.genivi.org/License/Public_Policy_for_GENIVI_Licensing_and_Copyright_v_1.0.pdf' target='_blank'>here</a>.

GENIVI Open Source Hosted Projects Seeing Growth
</h2>
</a>
<p>
Have you considered contributing to GENIVI open source hosted projects? GENIVI
hosts projects to increase the number of automotive-enabled software components and public interfaces available in the open source community. These projects are intended to benefit the entire automotive ecosystem, not just GENIVI members.
</p>
<p>
A number of open source projects are gaining additional contributors and new projects are being launched consistently. We hope you will consider engaging in an existing project and/or proposing a new project. GENIVI is taking proposals for new projects and participation is open to GENIVI members, non-member companies and individuals who develop automotive software and wish to consider hosting their code development projects in an open, automotive community of developers. For additional information, please visit the website <a href='http://projects.genivi.org' target='_blank'>here</a>.

Highlights from the 9th All Member Meeting
</h2>
</a>
<p>
GENIVI recently completed a successful 4-day All Member Meeting in San Diego, CA!
</p>
<p>
During his keynote, GENIVI President Philippe Gicquel from PSA Peugeot Citroen, spoke to an impressive number of accomplishments the alliance has achieved in the last year and also offered a view of "what's next" promising a more active project community, focus on quality and coverage of our compliance program, and a continuous improvement in awareness and value for our members.
</p>
<p>
Wednesday's full-day program, Open Automotive '13, drew a large audience of members and non-members and was full of content exploring the current and future business aspects of automotive infotainment with analysts delivering their insights. A member showcase rounded out the evening with 38 demo tables showcasing various GENIVI technologies all surrounding a 12MY LR4 auto that had the production infotainment system removed and fitted with two NDIS166 boxes, running the GENIVI compliant Tizen Linux distribution. The system demonstrated how to integrate the climate systems of the car over CAN, and how to control an existing production MOST amplifier through an optolyser; both from HTML5 HMI. The car also had Twitter integrated and could send and receive tweets.
</p>
<p>
The technical sessions held on Thursday and Friday received a number of accolades from attendees and brought forth valuable discussions around open source software approaches, software updates including Over the Air (OTA) approaches and connected car strategies.
</p>
<p>
The next GENIVI All Member Meeting will be in Gothenburg, Sweden on 22-25 April 2014. During this meeting we will have member and public (Open Automotive) programs available so we encourage you to consider attending the event. More details will be distributed in coming months.
