Applying Model-Based Design to SDV Development: A Practical Example

The shift towards software-defined vehicles (SDVs) is driving a significant change in how we design, build, and validate software. This change means we need to carefully balance software integrity, safety, and security with the push for continuous innovation. Model-Based Design (MBD) stands as a key strategy to navigate these software challenges, now enhanced to better align with DevOps methodologies. MBD streamlines a cohesive workflow, encompassing design validation, software architecture planning, component design, and software integration testing. We will cover how this approach has been updated to leverage the power of cloud computing technologies, significantly enhancing efficiency and scalability. Finally, we will cover how we are exploring support for VSS through use case(s).

Developing VSS Components for DDS applications

DDS is a middleware featuring a service-oriented architecture and a publish-subscribe communication mechanism. This flexible communication system has been widely adopted across various industries, including aerospace, defense, automotive, and robotics. Recently, DDS has gained some traction in the automotive industry and is being integrated with open-source platforms like COVESA.

VSS, a COVESA specification, defines each item by default as its own topic type/struct. RTI has grouped these data items into common topic types and generated IDL files. These IDL files are then imported to develop DDS-based applications that support VSS specifications.

Join us to learn about  advanced support for importing IDL files, including VSS information, for modeling DDS software applications and generating C++ production code

The Value of COVESA VSS for SDVs – A Members Perspective

A walk through of how NXP is using VSS is and how it is key for collaboration.  The value of VSS will shown through demonstrations by tangible, meaningful use cases.

Demonstration will be followed by feedback and proposals for VSS that would further enhance its value.
