<div>GENIVI is pleased to announce that two new automakers, <a href="http://www.gwm-global.com/" style="color: #2ba6cb;text-decoration: none;">Great Wall Motors</a> and <a href="http://www.cmc-motor.com/" style="color: #2ba6cb;text-decoration: none;">China Motor Corporation</a> have recently joined the alliance bringing the number of original equipment manufacturer members to 14.<br>
<br>
Great Wall Motors is the dominant local carmaker in the China market and the No.1 SUV manufacturer for 12 years and No.1 pickup manufacturer for 16 consecutive years in terms of sales volume by Chinese local brands, known as HAVAL & WINGLE. GWM exports its SUVs, sedans and pickups to Europe, Russia, Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Australia, and trying to expand its markets to North America and Western Europe.<br>
<br>
China Motor Corporation is a gas and electric automobile manufacturer in Taiwan and independently engineers clusters, IVI and networking of electronic systems in the automobile<em>.</em><br>
<br>
Early discussions with both companies suggest they are eager to explore GENIVI’s technical deliverables and to understand how the growing number of GENIVI solutions might fit into their future IVI programs.</div>

<div>The promise of truly connected vehicles rests not just on connectivity, but also on the exchange of data between the car and other devices, services, and other cars in a simple but robust and secure manner. The GENIVI board recognized the good work already started in the open community by Jaguar Land Rover and other contributors and has approved a Remote Vehicle Interaction (RVI) Expert Group to enhance this open source technology to a broader base of stakeholders and contributors in GENIVI.<br>
<br>
The RVI Expert Group plans to build upon open source technology to handle authentication, authorization, discovery, and data exchange between services in a sparsely connected peer-to-peer network with the goal that RVI is accepted by the automotive industry as a secure, reliable and proven technology choice for connected vehicle projects.<br>
<br>
The RVI Expert Group’s proposed charter is to:
<ul>
<li>specify, standardize, and implement core connectivity protocols and services between the IVI system and remote entities,</li>
<li>ensure that all protocols and services can be implemented in a secure and robust manner using proven open source technologies,</li>
<li>collaborate with existing organizations (OMA, IEEE) to ensure broad adoption and acceptance, and to avoid duplication and competition.</li>
</ul>
<br>
The group may also help the RVI technology become part of the GENIVI Compliance Specification, a blueprint for building modern IVI middleware platforms.<br>
<br>
Chief member contributors to the group include: Jaguar Land Rover, Ericsson, ATS, and Arynga. <div>Over 320 representatives from GENIVI member organizations plus another 45 non-member representatives gathered in Seoul, South Korea for the 13th GENIVI AMM and AMM Open Days on 20-23 October. The event featured a wide variety of programs that appealed to a broad spectrum of attendees ranging from business-focused to “deep-dive” technologists.<br>
<br>
GENIVI’s member updates included news of the recent launch of two new deliverables, the GENIVI Resource Kit and the GENIVI Solutions Catalog, both of which will be discussed in a later article. Additionally, GENIVI President Matt Jones cast a vision for an enhanced GENIVI demo platform that will become a highly accessible and low cost prototyping environment for future, innovative automotive software.<br>
<br>
The AMM Open Days program presented multiple sessions that gave the audience a feel for the strength of the Korean automotive market from both business and technical perspectives. Automotive security, emerging automaker-supplier business models, and trends in the China automotive market were subjects addressed on the first day. Kenichi Murata, general manager at Toyota, opened the second day with a vision for an open software platform and ecosystem for the next generation of connected vehicles. Throughout the week, developers, architects, and technical managers gathered in a significant number of technical break-out sessions exploring In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) middleware solutions and tooling. And, participants were encouraged to get their hands on the GENIVI Demo Platform (GDP) through multiple beginner and advanced tutorials.<br>

Always a highlight at these events is the GENIVI Member Showcase and Reception where 26 member companies displayed their latest GENIVI solutions and demonstrations. GENIVI is always impressed with the creativity and variety of ways GENIVI technologies are adopted and used to solve real IVI challenges in the marketplace. <div>GENIVI has a long and productive history at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and the 2016 edition is expected to be even better than previous years thanks to the continued showcase activities at the Trump Hotel and to a closer collaboration with SAE International.<br>

For the last four years, GENIVI has welcomed automotive stakeholders from all over the world to enjoy member demonstrations of GENIVI technologies during the GENIVI CES2016 Demonstration Showcase in Las Vegas. During the evenings of 6 & 7 January, GENIVI will fill three suites (64<sup>th</sup> floor of the Trump Hotel) with technologies developed by GENIVI members. This showcase is an excellent opportunity to see the pervasive adoption of GENIVI technologies in commercial products from leading suppliers. In addition to the showcase event, GENIVI has teamed with SAE International to produce two relevant and informative panel sessions taking place on 6 January, the first day of the CES 2016 event starting at 9 a.m. In keeping with the popular cybersecurity theme, the first panel entitled “Connected Cars – A Landscape Fraught with Peril,” will explore how the connected car is a prime target for cybercrime. Paul Hansen, Founder of The Hansen Report, will moderate panelists from Autoimmune, Inc., Mentor Automotive, Delphi and Ellis & Associates on the growing challenges and threats of today’s highly connected vehicles.<br>

Immediately following the first panel, Bill Weinberg, senior director Open Source Strategies at Black Duck Software will lead a panel entitled “Automotive Security Solutions – Full of Promise.” Panelists from TowerSec Automotive, Harman, Visteon, and Uber will explore existing and emerging technologies that can deliver safer, more secure cars and driving experiences. <br>

<div>As mentioned in the GENIVI AMM highlights article above, GENIVI President Matt Jones unveiled two recent alliance deliverables: a GENIVI (technical) Resource Kit and a GENIVI Solutions Catalog. Both of these are intended to help organizations and individuals, whether or not they are members of GENIVI, to understand more about GENIVI’s technical deliverables and the commercial offerings available worldwide that use GENIVI technologies.<br>

The <a href="http://www.genivi.org/technical-resource-kit" target="_blank" style="color: #2ba6cb;text-decoration: none;">Resource Kit</a> is a one-stop location for understanding and gaining access to the wide variety of GENIVI technical deliverables. Much like a tool kit, the Resource Kit contains a variety of tools necessary to understand and build IVI software. The kit content is written for management level understanding and more technical information is available by clicking on the numerous links available. The content of the kit will be expanded and refined over time, but GENIVI welcomes you to visit the kit to learn about the breadth of GENIVI technical work and how it might apply to your organization. The Solution Catalog provides a (growing) list of suppliers that market GENIVI solutions in the major automotive geographies worldwide. GENIVI solution categories range from full, “black box” or customized solutions to operating system platforms and even individual IVI software components. <div>Automotive IVI systems are becoming more complex by the day as drivers expect integration of the latest smartphone or availability of their favorite app as they drive. This complexity requires careful planning and a blueprint for piecing together software components numbering in the hundreds. Just as architects develop blueprints for complex buildings, GENIVI has now produced a blueprint for IVI systems called the Reference Architecture.<br>
<br>
The <a href="http://www.genivi.org/sites/default/files/resource_documents/GENIVI_Reference_Architecture_29Oct2015.pdf" style="color: #2ba6cb;text-decoration: none;">GENIVI Reference Architecture</a> overview is now publically available and provides a brief introduction to each software domain included in a typical IVI software platform.<br>
<br>
GENIVI is also nearing completion of a more detailed, goal architecture document that goes into an additional level of detail on each of the software “blocks” found in the overview document. This more detailed document describes a reusable, IVI platform that combines specific, individual software components with standard interfaces that allow for commercial solutions to be integrated in a simple and standard way. This goal architecture consolidates the many design decisions taken by GENIVI over the years and clarifies the functional areas of GENIVI’s work. GENIVI intends also to overlay this goal architecture with its technical roadmap giving readers an awareness of the maturity of GENIVI’s platform and pointing out where additional contribution is welcome.</div>

There are constant pressures to prototype, create and deliver software on-time and at budget, and to meet ever more aggressive lifecycles and shorter market windows. Consequently, software is often deployed with the “paint-still-wet” core functionality mostly in place, but without additional investment needed to harden applications and systems against cyber attack.<br>

This webinar, presented by the GENIVI Alliance, will review the evolving automotive product lifecycle and examine ways and means to integrate cybersecurity as an integral part of software development. In particular, it will lay out best practices for “appsec,” including, security tools (e.g., for code quality), vulnerability tracking, supply chain security, pen testing, development versus deployment configuration management, and security in both traditional (waterfall) development and agile environments.<br>
