<div>GENIVI has signed an agreement with Techstars Mobility of Detroit, Michigan to strengthen the relationship between startup companies, focusing on the future of mobility and connected car solutions, and the automotive industry. Companies in good standing in the Techstars Mobility program, focusing on next-generation mobility and transportation solutions, can join the GENIVI Startup Associate Member (SAM) Program at no cost for the first year. This membership will provide the startup companies with access to the GENIVI member community and broader visibility to the IVI and connected vehicle ecosystem, while providing GENIVI members with an opportunity to work with entrepreneurial companies who are bringing new, innovative ideas to the rapidly changing mobility and transportation industry.<br>
<br>
The GENIVI SAM Program, now with 14 member companies, encourages immediate, active participation in GENIVI technical and business activities by startups as they develop their first automotive products. The companies are introduced to the IVI and connected vehicle software context, and receive technical direction and guidance in the development or re-engineering of their prototype to meet automotive requirements.<br>

At the recent GENIVI All Member Meeting, program sessions were held to hear from some of the startup organizations and a “Startup Alley” was featured at the GENIVI Member Showcase where startups showcased their products and/or approach. <div>GENIVI recently announced the GENIVI Development Platform (GDP) 11 Release Candidate 3 (RC3) moving the GDP from a demonstrator to a true development platform. Delivered and enhanced by the GENIVI community, the new GDP 11 RC3 features include:

GENIVI has provided two release candidates for prospective adopters who may have different goals. GDP 11 RC2 gives adopters a more stable experience given the weeks of testing on multiple hardware boards, though without the new user interface and application launcher. GDP 11 RC3 gives adopters the absolute latest set of features including the new user interface and application launcher, though the stability of this candidate is still being proven.<br>

<div>GENIVI concluded its fall All Member Meeting (AMM) last week in San Francisco/Burlingame, California, and by all measures, the event had a great impact. The program content, networking and technical productivity was on par or better than previous AMMs.<br>

Tuesday’s program delivered member updates ranging from Expert Group updates, Security Team progress, GENIVI Development Platform (GDP) improvements, and the challenges facing GENIVI in the license compliance arena. The day kicked off with an “Apple-style” keynote where GENIVI President, Darren Benjamin, had a series of invited speakers talk about various aspects of the alliance progress ranging from financial stability to technical productivity. Wednesday’s program kicked off with two sessions on the role of the connected vehicle in the smart and connected cities of today and tomorrow. The program continued with insights into the future of connected transportation and how in-vehicle infotainment will evolve once autonomous vehicles arrive. The afternoon program emphasized the value of startups and innovation; an analyst’s view of the smart city, smart home and big data landscapes; and a talk about the value of bug bounty programs in the context of cybersecurity. As always, a highlight of the week was the Showcase and Reception where GENIVI launched the “Best in Show” competition (see results later in the newsletter). On the technology side, Wednesday’s break-out tracks emphasized a number of practical issues in the security area, standard interface definition using Franca IDL, and rapid software testing. The Remote Vehicle Interaction (RVI) Expert Group (EG) had a number of productive breakouts as did a number of other EG’s and open projects. Hands-on training for the GENIVI Development Platform was also given during both Wednesday and Thursday programs.<br>
<br>
Thursday morning was given to the GENIVI Startup Associate Member program where representatives from several GENIVI startup members engaged the audience in dialogs about innovation and new approaches conceived by these startups. On the technology side, the work on Vehicle Web APIs was presented in a single track where W3C presented the on-going work in their Automotive Business Group in close coordination with GENIVI which was detailed further in two sessions on the GENIVI Location Based Services APIs and the Vehicle Data Interface.<br>

The event was yet another success in a long line of GENIVI AMMs and we wish to extend our appreciation to the numerous sponsors (listed to the right) for their generosity. <em>GDP Demonstration - Renesas Electronics Corporation</em><br>
Renesas has a long history of supporting the GDP platform and every generation since inception. They demonstrated their Porter board running on the GDP platform with the newest user interface and application launcher. Future M3 Starter Kit implementations will provide automotive grade hardware for developers at an affordable cost increasing the reach of the GDP to non-automotive developers.<br>

<em>Startup Demonstration - AVE Automedia</em><br>
AVE AutoMedia demonstrated Neptune, a kid’s video app that features science, technology, engineering, art and math content for children ages 2 to 10. The Neptune demo was presented on an iPad tablet and showed video streaming and parental controls with a simulation for how navigation data from the IVI system can be used to enhance the user experience. Neptune allows parents to control the content experience while giving children a universe of educational and entertaining videos that they can take with them.<br>

<em>New Innovation Demonstration – Excelfore</em><br>
Excelfore demonstrated live SOTA updates to GENIVI-based IVI platforms. Shortly before the AMM, ITK Engineering and Excelfore announced their partnership to provide integrated FOTA/SOTA solutions with fully comprehensive vehicle safety and cybersecurity for the automotive market. <br>

<em>End-to-end RVI provisioning system</em><br>
The RVI project's mobile unlock demo is expanded with the new RVI provisioning system to create signed certificates and their associated credentials, allowing for distributed provisioning and accreditation of vehicles and mobile devices alike. The demo will show how a virtual car key can be generated and sent out to a mobile device running a stock unlock app, which can then use it to unlock a vehicle.<br>
<br>
<em>Peer-to-peer control of local media using RVI</em><br>
Using the native RVI Android SDK we implement a media player controller on a mobile device that connects to a vehicle, negotiate temporary permissions, and control the GENIVI GDP 11 Media Player running in the head unit. The Android media player app uses RVI to discover, authenticate, and negotiate rights with the vehicle in a pure P2P fashion with no Internet connection required.<br>
<br>
<em>Hortonworks Big Data</em><br>
The RVI Big Data effort is how RVI can deliver messages to a cloud server as well as give access control. Having Dynamic Agents feed into the Hortonworks DataFlow, the system will be able to act on things such as real time weather data for a specified location to alert or remotely roll up the windows for your car.
