Collaborative Projects

COVESA members launch and contribute to a variety of collaborative projects that advance the mobility ecosystem and focus on accelerating connected vehicle systems.

Data Expert Group

The Data Expert Group (DEG) provides a single group in which best practices and common approaches for connected vehicle data and interfaces are discussed, documented, and where appropriate, proved. A primary goal of the group is to facilitate, simplify, and reduce integration efforts and improve interoperability enabling focus on new experiences, business opportunities and revenue streams.

Interface Definition

Launching starting Q2 2023:

Vehicle Signal Specification (VSS): A common approach for describing vehicle data and is a widely adopted, developer-friendly, extensible data model and catalog with industry-supported tooling.

Vehicle Signal Specification Ontology (VSSo): Facilitates the use of VSS in analytics and services.

Focus on technologies (software), patterns, and practices involved in the transfer and use of the COVESA standard data and services description models with the goal of making their adoption quicker and easier.

Vehicle API: Exposes vehicle data as defined and described by VSS to a variety of agreed upon touch-points in and out of the vehicle.

Vehicle Service Catalog (VSC): A standardized, extensible vehicle service catalog and associated tools to enable protocol, language, and specification-agnostic interoperability between ECUs, infotainment, and cloud.

Vehicle Information Service Specification: A joint effort between W3C and COVESA hosted by W3C. It is a service for accessing vehicle information, signals from sensors on control units within a vehicle's network. It exposes this information using COVESA VSS.

 EV Charging Expert Group

  • EV Charging Event Data Aggregation Project

  • EV Optimization - Increase Travel Range for Fixed Battery

The Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Expert Group is where common and novel approaches around EV charging are discussed, documented, and proven including but not limited to delivering great EV experiences, optimization of resources, exploring new business models, EV ecosystem, and alignment with standards.

The EV Charging Event Data Aggregation Project focuses on the standardization of data and APIs that will enable and leverage shared big data at a large scale to deliver great charging experiences.

The EV Optimization - Increase Travel Range for Fixed Battery team aims to develop a standard specification for power optimization and demonstrate features/scenarios by POC.

AndroidTM Automotive SIG

The AndroidTM Automotive SIG focuses on software integration and supporting automakers and their suppliers who are adopting Android Automotive.

Automotive Cybersecurity Team

The Automotive Cybersecurity Team addresses a growing number of standards and topics enhancing cybersecurity in the vehicle, including data security and privacy.

Simulation & Tooling

  • digital.auto

The digital.auto initiative aims to support OEMs in the adoption of VSS, SdV and COVESA standards by making it easy to rapidly explore the feasibility of new business ideas and features through an online playground. The playground can be utilized to build a portfolio of COVESA-supported use cases with high appeal to OEMs. This will help OEMs to fully utilize COVESA standards in the context of digital business models.

Vehicle Experience and Content / Entertainment BoF

The Vehicle Experience and Content / Entertainment BoF provides a community for members to discuss, learn, and validate ideas and thought leadership as related to vehicle experience.

  • In-Vehicle Payment SIG

The In-Vehicle Payment SIG explores standard and novel approaches for in-vehicle commerce and payments.
